  • Yes, I Believe In Soulmates

Do you believe in soulmates? Why or why not?

A few months ago, my BFF (best friend forever/now sister-friend) and I were discussing our relationship and we came to the conclusion that we are soulmates.

You see, we were placed in each other’s lives as toddlers. The story goes, we met when we were two years old. My friend’s mom was visiting her parents who lived across the street from my great, great grandparents and the grands (from both sides) introduced us. That was nearly 51 years ago, and we have been friends since!

The interesting thing about our friendship is that we have never lived in the same town or even the same state for more than a year or two at a time. While I lived in Mississippi off and on until the age of eleven (my mom moved between Mississippi and Kansas several times), she and her family lived in Michigan or Illinois (they moved between the two states just as frequently as me and my family moved between MS and KS). During this time, we spent our summers together when we visited our grands. By the time we were in middle and high school, our families had finally settled down—mine in Kansas and hers in Michigan and then Wisconsin. Over our teenage years, we kept in touch by writing letters—this lasted throughout our young adulthood. In our 20s and 30s, we visited each other once every few years. Today, we visit each other at least once a year.

Besides the two of us spending our entire lives together, the other reason we believe we’re soulmates is because we share the same first name. I was born in Mississippi almost five months before my friend was born in Illinois. Our mothers had never been friends, but they gave us both the same first name. We’re Shaun (me) and Shawn, or LaShaundrea and LaShawn.

This picture was taken last month (May). I’m taking the selfie, my friend Shawn is standing in the back, and her older sister, Sylvia, is beside me. We always have a great time when we’re together.🥰

So, yes, I believe in soulmates. As I mentioned earlier, it was during my conversation with Shawn a few months ago that we realized we are soulmates. We were divinely connected to do life together.

Thank you for allowing me to share! Have a wonderful weekend.

  • I Blocked The Outside Noises

What is one way you have grown this year?

Old picture. Boy, do I miss Twitter!😢

I have finally managed to block the outside noises of others’ opinions, suggestions, and thoughts. I honestly thought I moving to the beat of my own drums until I decided to disconnect from social media. I mean, I was doing my own thing before I disconnected; however, I now notice that social media had a greater influence on my daily life than I realized—just being honest and transparent.

We say we’re free thinkers. We believe we’re free thinkers. But when we spend most of our day (most of the time unnoticed) scrolling through social media feeds, our thoughts and feelings are influenced by what we see, hear, and read. Disconnecting from social media has allowed me to reconnect with myself, which is what I consider growth.☺️
